UNFAIRLY LABELED: HOW YOUR WORKPLACE CAN BENEFIT FROM DITCHING GENERATIONAL STEREOTYPES

As experienced baby boomer employees are retiring, the rise of millennials in the workplace is increasing, with over 80 million people born between 1982 and 2000 in the US alone. As these demographic shifts become more obvious, entire generations are being labeled, categorized and stereotyped. Unfortunately this has a profound effect on corporate America as leaders decide how to attract, retain and engage employees of all
ages.

Citing extensive academic research from her book, Unfairly Labeled: How Your Workplace Can Benefit From Ditching Generational Stereotypes (Wiley), Kriegel points out that not only does such labeling create unfair biases and lead to inappropriate reactions, but in fact, there is no clear evidence to support the messages that the stereotypes convey. In this session Jessica will discuss how individuals can combat the unfair labels that define their generation. She will also review the pitfalls of generational stereotyping and how that can affect business outcomes.
