Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business

Alan May is an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business and the former Chief People Officer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). With over three decades of HR leadership at HPE, Boeing, and PepsiCo, Alan has shaped global people strategies and led major transformation initiatives at some of the world’s most renowned organizations.

During his tenure at HPE, Alan pioneered the strategic integration of people, culture, and technology to drive enterprise growth and innovation—positioning HR as a critical enabler of business transformation. His experience spans periods of significant market disruption and organizational change, giving him unique insights into how CHROs can influence at the executive level. Alan holds advanced degrees in Economics and Labor Relations from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Now focused on teaching and mentoring the next generation of HR leaders at UW, Alan brings practical wisdom on elevating the CHRO role from functional leadership to strategic business partnership.
